A Note from Caryn Kanel after spending a few days with the troop at Summer Camp (Seven Ranges):

As we all know, we have fabulous adult leadership in this troop.  I felt I needed to relay to you and remind you just how fabulous the folks really are because it is easy to forget.  I returned from camp Tuesday night very excited (and relieved) by what I saw happening at camp.

The boys are doing great!  It was nice to get to know many of them a little more and they are working hard to run their campsite neatly and according to the camp protocol.  They are working on their merit badge requirements and are helping one another.  I am in awe with the scout leadership I see at the meetings and at camp that has been developed over the years through scouting.

The adults - Mr. Gallucci, Mr. Schick, Dr. Crouse, Dr. Bridger, Dr. Vesco, Mr. Larson, Mr. Snyder, Mrs. Conrad and Mr. Vallette - all deserve our thanks for taking a week off from work and spending that time with our boys!  I was told to bring a book and games because there would be a lot of time to relax, but I haven't seen them relaxing much.

They have sprayed a tent for spiders to help someone sleep, helped boys through advancement requirements, merit badge homework, and pipestone requirements.  They are asking the boys how much water they have drank, if they have showered and if they are washing their hands before eating.  They are teaching and making sure the older scouts teach the new ones how to do camp duties.  They made sure the scouts all found their classes and purchased the necessary things for the classes.  They are making sure all scouts have a buddy when they leave camp and follow all the safety steps throughout the camp.  They are compassionate with the scouts, making sure all are OK mentally and emotionally.  Many are furthering their training while at camp.  There are meetings and volunteer opportunities that many are participating in as well.  And there is much more...

There is so much that happens in a camp with 29 boys that no one is relaxing much.  I was very impressed and felt compelled to share with you how much gratitude I feel towards these leaders.  Please be sure to let them know how much we appreciate them!

Our boys couldn't have such an active troop if it weren't for the adults who step up and help out throughout the year.  I have told many people about 555 and the large number of parents who are active in all the activities.  Summer camp is just one of those.  We really do have much to be thankful for and I want to thank everyone who has come before us and paved the way because this is a great place to be!

Troop 555 is both a Boy Scouts of America Troop and a Venture Scout Crew (boys and girls).  Both groups earn their own funds for camping and adventure trips and both are Scout-Led.

Troop 555 graduates a large percentage of Eagle Scouts and is proud of our history and our success in rounding out the youth of Upper Arlington.
